THE DIONYSIAN NATURALIST Sacred Nature, Ecstasy, and Liberation in the Anthropocene A Book Prospectus Wayne Martin Mellinger, Ph.D. December 2025 "A religion, new or old, that stressed the magnificence of the universe as revealed by modern science might be able to draw forth reserves of reverence and awe hardly tapped by the conventional faiths. Sooner or later, such a religion will emerge." — Carl Sagan A CIVILIZATIONAL SPIRITUAL CRISIS We inhabit a historical moment in which the world we inherited no longer knows how to sustain human meaning. Everywhere we look, we see evidence not merely of environmental destruction or social inequality, but of a deeper crisis in the human spirit. Forests burn, ice melts, oceans acidify, and entire ecosystems collapse under the weight of an economic system incapable of reverence.   264 MAXIMS:  LESSONS FROM THE LONGEST NIGHT Maxims for a Philosophy of Descent and Return Wayne Martin Mellinger, Ph.D. PRELUDE: AT THE VIGIL December 21st. Courthouse steps. Cold wind. Fourty-seven names spoken into winter darkness. This is not a world awaiting redemption. This is a world already breathing under the weight of what it has become. These are not conclusions but lessons drawn from descent—not enlightenment but fracture, not ascent but return. Pain has authors: families, markets, laws, institutions, interactional humiliations that accumulate until the soul protests. 5...

A Year When the Theology Became Whole The year 2025 marked a decisive turning point in the life of The Dionysian Naturalist . What began years ago as a nascent spiritual-philosophical intuition matured this year into a coherent, articulated, and inhabitable theological world. I produced twenty-five substantial posts in 2025 alone—work that transformed Dionysian Naturalism from a developing personal vision into a public, organized, and extensible religious philosophy. For the first time, the project achieved a kind of wholeness. Not closure. Not completion. But integrity. That distinction matters. Dionysian Naturalism is not finished—and by its very nature, it never could be. It is a living theology, oriented toward becoming rather than doctrinal finality. Still, by the end of 2025, the core elements had cohered: a cosmology of sacred nature, an embodi...
